Public Health Command - Pacific

SCHOFIELD BARRACKS, HAWAII – The Tripler Army Medical Center (TAMC) hosted its 2025 Best Leader Competition from December 8-11, showcasing the talent and leadership skills of U.S. Army medical personnel across the region. The competition took place at various locations across Oahu, with key events centered on Schofield Barracks East Range 2.

The Best Leader Competition, one of the most highly anticipated events in the Army’s calendar, put junior military leaders to the test, challenging their physical endurance, tactical knowledge, and decision-making capabilities under pressure. Participants competed in a series of rigorous exercises that assessed a wide range of leadership and combat skills essential to success in the medical and operational military environment.

This year's event tested competitors on a wide range of military and leadership disciplines. Participants completed an extensive set of events, such as a 5K jungle run, Expert Physical Fitness Assessment (EPFA), stress shoot, Expert Field Medical Badge (EFMB) lanes, Army Warrior Tasks (AWT) and battle drill lanes, two ruck marches totaling 14 miles, night land navigation, water survival, a rigorous obstacle course, and a written exam. They also attended a board to challenge their knowledge of military leadership.

As the competition progressed, soldiers were evaluated on their critical reasoning abilities, technical proficiency, and overall performance in both medical and military challenges. The culminating events featured an intense, timed series of tasks designed to test participants’ ability to remain calm, focused, and decisive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

The 2025 Best Leader Competition is an important milestone in the development of future Army leaders. With its focus on readiness, leadership, and teamwork, it underscored MRC-P's commitment to maintaining a force that is prepared to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving global environment.
