  - Pets are required to check-in virtually with the Iwakuni veterinary treatment facility within 72 hours after arrival to MCAS Iwakuni.
  - Pets will physically report with supporting Import Documentation to the Iwakuni veterinary treatment facility within 72 hours after exiting restriction of movement (ROM) status.
    - Rabies certificates for vaccines used for FAVN testing

  - Pets are required to be located at one of the three GOJ AQS approved Quarantine Facilities.
    - With their immediate family in on-base family housing.

  - Pets are not authorized to be housed with another family until GOJ rabies quarantine has been completed.
  - Pet reservations should be made with The Barking Lot.

  - Pet’s leaving Japan are required to have the following completed prior to departure:
    - Health certificate – signed in blue ink
    - Rabies certificate – signed in blue ink
    - Immunization record
    - Letter of acclimation
    - Export form and examination – only if flying commercial airlines
  - If pets have received a rabies vaccine from an off-base veterinarian, the owner is responsible for supplying copies of the rabies certificate for travel.
  - If the Iwakuni Veterinary Treatment Facility is unable to assist you with your pet’s health certificate examination, off-base Veterinarians are able to complete health certificates for PCS to CONUS.
Clinic Policies
Local/installation pet policies
- According to MCASO 11101.3N (23 JUL 03), the following conditions apply to pet ownership on base:
1) Must be assigned to pet eligible quarters
2) Breeding animals is prohibited
3) No dogs are allowed in all mid-rise homes, however two spayed or neutered cats are allowed
4) Two pets are permitted in all townhomes
5) All pets are required to be micro-chipped, vaccinated, and registered with the veterinary treatment facility and housing office
6) No non-domestic animals (snakes, chickens, ducks, lizards, ferrets, monkeys, reptiles, tarantulas) are allowed
7) Animals shall be restrained or confined at all times, and pets must be in an approved fenced yard unless being walked
8) Animals shall be humanely treated at all times
9) Animal premises shall be kept sanitary
10) Animals shall not be permitted to disturb the peace or constitute a public nuisance or hazard
- According to MCO 10570.1 (31 Jan 13), full or mixed breeds of Pit Bulls, Rottweilers, and canid/wolf hybrids, Doberman Pinschers, and Chows are prohibited aboard Marine Corps Installations. There are no dog breed restrictions for entry into Japan, or for treatment at the U.S. Army Veterinary Treatment Facility on-base.

FAQs – General Information
- We are a by-appointment only veterinary treatment facility.
- We are not an emergency facility.
- We are located at Building 1052.
- We are not associated with MCCS and The Barking Lot.
- Payment is due at time of services rendered. We accept Visa, Mastercard and Discover. We do not accept cash or check.
- All pets are required to be registered with the Iwakuni Veterinary Treatment Facility within 72 hours of acquisition.
- All pets are required to be registered with Iwakuni City Public Health Office within 30 days of acquisition and/or arrival.
- Per the GOJ AQS, rabies vaccines are required to be updated annually.
- A special power of attorney is required for any person(s) providing care to an animal to whom they are not the owner.
- If your pet is rehomed, a transfer of ownership is required to be completed. Both parties must be present at time of transfer.
- If your pet passes away, you are required to immediately notify the Iwakuni Veterinary Treatment Facility.
- Please contact Environmental Office regarding stray cat population and concerns.

Routine services (ie. Nail trims, anal gland expressions, etc.)
Pet NEO packet guidance and preparedness
Routine surgeries (ie. Spay/neuter, dental cleaning, mass removal, etc.)

- Off-base veterinary clinic is recommended for after-hour emergency care.
- Recommend all clients establish an after-hours emergency pet care plan with an off-base veterinarian.
