PHC-P Soldiers compete in Best Warrior Competition

By Amber Kurka Public Health Command-Pacific

The 2020 Public Health Command–Pacific Best Warrior Competition is in full swing!

Representing five different PHC-P Activities, three Soldiers and six NCOs are competing this week at Tripler Army Medical Center and Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, to see who will take home Soldier and NCO of the Year bragging rights at the brigade level.

During the four-day competition, Soldiers will test their knowledge, skills, and abilities, by conquering various warrior tasks and battle drills relevant to today’s operating environment.

“It’s more than just a week long competition, it’s everything that the Army embodies,” explained Master Sgt. Jessica Kendrick, Public Health Activity – Hawaii first sergeant and competition noncommissioned officer in charge.

The Best Warrior Competition recognizes Soldiers who demonstrate commitment to the Army values, embody the Warrior Ethos, and represent the Force of the Future.

“The Best Warrior Competition is important because it's a chance for enlisted Soldiers to share a sense of esprit de corps, cohesion, and have fun sharing the long standing tradition of competing against other units on what the Army deems as the most important skills a Soldier needs to win on the battlefield,” explained PHC-P Sgt. Maj. Danny Hailey.

Some of the specific tasks Soldiers will complete this week include: an Army Combat Fitness Test assessment, a land navigation course, Army Warrior tasks, an obstacle course, a formal board interview, and a mystery event.

“Soldiers don’t often get the chance to demonstrate their excellence in the field,” explained Kendrick. “This is that opportunity to not only represent their unit, but Army Medical Command and Public Health Command – Pacific to the general public and their peers.”

The winners of the competition will be announced March 6 in the auditorium at Tripler Army Medical Center.
