Veterinary Corps Missions:

Military Working Dogs

  • Ensure that MWDs are kept healthy and ready to deploy at any time. MWD emergencies can happen at any time – in the event this happens, privately owned animal appointments may need to be rescheduled.

Public Health
  • Promote public health and prevent the spread of zoonotic disease (diseases passed from animals to humans) – provide wellness exams, vaccinations, and preventive care to privately owned animals.

  • Perform inspections of various food vendors, commissaries, CDCs, and dining facilities as part of preventive medicine to ensure that food and animals are safe – this may cause limited appointment availability at times due to our veterinarian conducting these missions.
Services Provided
Camp Zama VTF offers routine wellness and vaccination appointments, quarantine exams, laboratory services, radiology, surgical procedures, dental cleanings, health certificates, and sick call appointments.

Pets are seen by appointment only and must be registered prior to scheduling.

Japan requires that dogs receive a rabies vaccine every year, three year vaccines are not recognized.

Emergency Disclaimer/Emergency Contact
Camp Zama VTF is NOT able to offer emergency care, after hour care, or hospitalization for critical care patients.

We recommend consulting our Off Base Clinics Guide and having an established relationship with an emergency veterinary clinic should an emergency ever arise.
