Lieutenant Colonel Matthew A. Levine currently commands Public Health Activity-Japan (PHA-J), a forward-based Battalion that delivers Veterinary Service Support to 56 US Forces Japan (USFJ) DoD installations and the U.S. 7th Fleet.

LTC Matthew A. Levine was raised in Andover, Massachusetts. He earned a Master of Science degree in 2000 from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill but subsequently switched allegiances to North Carolina State University earning a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 2004. In 2015, he graduated from Harvard University with a Master of Public Health in Global Health.

LTC Levine's previous assignments include: Branch OIC, Eglin Air Force Base, Florida; Force Veterinarian, Multinational Forces and Observers, Sinai, Egypt; Branch Chief, Southern California District Veterinary Command, San Diego, California; Deputy Commander, Public Health District - South Europe, Vicenza, Italy; Chief of the Food Protection Branch, Department of Veterinary Science, Army Medical Department (AMEDD) Center and School, Fort Sam Houston, Texas; and Commander, 64th Medical Detachment Veterinary Service Support, Baumholder, Germany.

His military education includes the AMEDD Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, USDA Foreign Animal Disease Course, Level 1 Combatives, Airborne Course, Intermediate-Level Education (ILE), Instructor Training Course, Cadre Training Course, Medical Stability Operations Course, Veterinary Support to Stability Operations Course, Global Health Strategies for Security Course, Joint Senior Medical Leaders Course, Joint Humanitarian Operations Course, and Pre-Command Courses.

LTC Levine's awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Multinational Forces and Observers Medal, the Parachutist Badge, the Basic Army Instructor Badge, the German Armed Forces Badge for Military Proficiency (Gold), and the distinguished Order of Military Medical Merit.

LTC Levine serves alongside his wife, lfat Levine, and his three children, Liam (10), Eden (8), and Emma (4). The entire Family is excited to be in Japan.
